เจ๊โอว (ร้านใหม่) – MUST VISIT RESTAURANT IN BANGKOK
-Originally posted on eshtravaganza on December 2015-
It’s just almost the time of the year, everyone’s favourite month, where many of us, and perhaps you maybe, going to spend a lovely holiday to end this awesome 2015, as well as welcoming 2016. And for those who’re going outside Indonesia, and especially, to Thailand, then keep this words in mind. “YOU HAVE TO GO TO THIS BLOODY DAMN GOOD RESTAURANT”, for me, it’s really a MUST VISIT RESTAURANT IN THAILAND.
Just before you scroll down for more, getting to this restaurant is quite easy, and in fact, it’s just a walking distance from the National Stadium sky train station. BUT, be prepared to wait for, more than one hour I believe, since I waited for 2,5 hours for getting a table in this restaurant, and it was totally worth my sacrifice!
The restaurant itself was quite simple, with only regular kind of stainless tables and chairs inside the restaurant, and some other plastic table and chair for those who seating on the outside. Yes, thats simple actually, with lots of crowd outside the restaurant which really shocked me when I get there. Just like starving people looking for free food instead of waiting for a table, but well.
2,5 hours spent patiently impatiently, and I keep on coming to the uncle who always shouting calling out for the numbers on the waiting list, till I finally get there, so here we go!
Thick slices of pork cheek, deep fried to perfection which at the first sight, I thought it will be a little hard to chew this since it was quite thick, but then I was wrong. It was totally crispy and juicy at the same time. Paired with their magical dipping to give a little bit spicy and fresh character at the same time shouldn’t be missed!
Just when in Thai, I just would like to try something that is very common like we have here in Indonesia. Honestly, it was good, fragrant, but doesn’t really stand out far from what I’ve ever tried here.
The aroma was nice, nicely fried, and the bouncy crispy character was also good. Good for sharing as part of the starter.
The Stir Fried Duck
Fried and sauteed nicely with garlic and chili. This dish is surely can’t be missed as well. The aroma was really good, taste was absolutely savoury that will made you crave for more. I love this dish even though it’s oily, but well, that’s also the magic part right, oil meets lots of garlic and fresh chili.
Just forgot how they called in here, but well, this was such an amazing dish in here. Look at that bloody crispy skin that will always haunt you and stuck inside your head, and look at that shiny part of fat that saying out loud “I’m Fckn Juicy”. Nuff said I guess!
The Tom Yum Noodle
Always there in every table. It’s like I can only found 1 from 20 table that didn’t order this tom yum noodle, like it’s very popular and a must ordered menu here. And in fact, the reason why I waited for 2,5 hours, is for this damn looking good tom yum noodle. Portion wise, it was quite large, and enough for 3-4 people. Consist of seafood, pork meatballs and big slices of deep fried pork that make it even more perfect. They topped it with two raw eggs to enrich the taste, so make sure you have to stir it quickly and don’t let it cold.
Oh almost forgot to tell you the taste. So, it was freaking rich, it was spicy but not that freaking spicy. It was savoury and the tanginess was quite strong, and yes, it was awesome!
So guys, enough from me to make you drooling badly, and it’s time for me to give you a little bit direction. If you wish to go to this restaurant by walk, then go to the national stadium, and prepare your waze, and search for this เจ๊โอว (ร้านใหม่) or this ร้านเจ๊โอวข้าวต้มเป็ด ถ.จรัสเมือง. The place was quite accurate in waze, and it’s how I get there.
By the way, I was informed that the menu in the afternoon for lunch, is different for dinner, and what I had and wrote here, is based on my dinner experience, especially the tomyum that I heard it’s only available starting 10pm if I’m not mistaken. So get ready to wait, and in case you’re terribly hungry waiting for your table, go get some snack from the nearest 7/11. Trust me, that’s how I survived there haha!
